Of course, my insurance wouldn't pay for the surgery to correct it and he said he would give me a break and only charge me $12500. Well, I took my films to Dr. Stempel (who is an excellent doctor) and he said that that diagnosis was crazy. I do not have a septate uterus. I just find it really interesting that so many of Dr. Abae's patients are diagnosed with a septate uterus when that is actually a very rare condition.
Anyway, I'm glad you are having a great experience with him and I wish you the best of luck. |
Natalie, I'm sorry you had a bad experience with him. What brought him to the conclusion for you that you have a septate uterus? Did you see him at his new office location on Pine Island or the old location? I only ask that b/c that price is outrageous and is no where near the price I was given - I'm talking WAY less. I'm just wondering if that price was something from the old office under someone else's direction.
You certainly have me wondering now with regards to just how common - or not common - having a septate uterus is. Could it in fact be something like PCOS/Endo where most doctors overlook it to be "nothing" or is it really nothing? Know what I mean? My previous doctor pretty much laughed in my face when I told him that I thought I might have Endo due to the reading I've done online and such with his only response being "If every woman read and took those online tests, they'd all have Endo".
Please don't think I'm trying to make excuses or anything for Dr Abae. I saw my 3D ultrasound image and will have a copy of it next week for my own records as well as copies of all photos from surgery (including the before/after shots of the septate) - I already saw all photos last week at post-op. I plan to question him regarding the commonness of this as well as do some additional research again.
I did find this though:
Quote:
Number of Women With a Septate Uterus: Findings vary heavily, again possibly due to diagnosis technique, but anywhere from 8% to 23% of women with recurrent miscarriages may have some type of uterine malformation. About one-third of women with congenital uterine malformations have a septate uterus. |
The more important question for you though is, have you found a doctor now that is giving you the medical attention that you need and making headway with their diagnosis's?
