If your insulin levels are too high, it will be difficult to lose weight. Acanthosis nigricans, or dark leathery patches of skin on the neck folds, under the breast or arms or vulvar area can be a sign of insulin resistance. Metabolic syndrome is diagnosed by elevated blood pressure, high triglycerides and high BMI, waste circumferance, or waist hip ratio. Many ob gyns ignore insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome.
