That's certainly not a Baptist belief. Small churches can often be overtaken by a pastor with ideas contrary to Scripture. We just left last year a mid sized church with beliefs not in line with Scripture. If the pastor said it, it was true, according to the leadership. Again, that's not Baptist.

It does sound like a Pentacostal belief, not a popular one, but common in some circles. It reminds me of the pastor who said that if you did ______ you wouldn't get sick. He changed his tune when he got cancer. One of the greatest missionaries in history watched as his children starved and his wife went mad and tried to kill him. Being "in-tune" is a must, how do we survive otherwise, but its certainly not going to shield us from the effects of living in a fallen world.
