I used to work with a lady who didn't believe in talking about illness - because she felt if she spoke it, it would happen. Once I mentioned how I felt like I was coming down with a cold, and it bothered her (that was before I knew her beliefs). Is this along the same lines? Anyway, I personally do not believe it, because according to my own beliefs, God tells us He will test some of us with our health.
