Have you been tested for anti-thyroid antibodies? If you have antibodies, or are thyroid hormone resistant, you could have so-called "normal" levels and still be ill.

I have hashimoto's, which is the autoimmune thyroiditis, and I need to keep my TSH hovering around 1.0 or I feel very ill. If I am at a TSH of 2.5, I feel sick.

You guys need to find a thyroid knowledgeable doctor. It's hard. Keep at it. Try one of the docs listed at http://www.thyroid-info.com/topdrs/index.htm
