hypothyroidism & pregnancy Have any of you been pregnant and not have your thyroid under control completely? I just found out that I'm pregnant (5 weeks) and my doctor and I are still trying to get my hypothyroidism under control.
I am not sure where my level is at right now (I go on Monday to get it checked) but the last time I got it checked, my level was at 5.11. My original level (without medicine) is at 8.3 and with just one dose of medicine (Synthroid) daily it dropped to 5.11. I know that .3-4.5 is normal. I am hoping that my current level is between .3-4.5.
I would just like some advice/maybe comfort on the situation. I am afraid that I might miscarry because I have read that thyroid problems can cause miscarriage if they arent under control. However, I do know that sometimes a woman's thyroid medicine has to be adjusted when she is pregnant, so I am hoping that my fears about the situation wont last much longer.
From what I remember my doctor told me that I would be fine but I'm just curious if any of you have had gone through this first hand.
I am assuming that some people get pregnant and dont even know they have hypothyroidism, and then find out they do the same time they find out their pregnant. I am hoping that in general, it can be put under control quickly so that it can help prevent miscarriage.
I am also on Metformin so I am hoping that it is true that it can potentially prevent early miscarriage for some people..
Thanks in advance. |
