I'm new to the forum, but my story is kind of close to yours. I'm 25 now, but I got diagnosed when I was 18.
My mother was the same way...and there was nothing wrong with HER daughter. I didn't have a good Dr. either, so I was told that I was worrying for nothing and the first gyny I went to was horrifying and painful. This was when I was 15 or so...I would have about one period a year. I was never overweight, but when I had a period it was like a dam bursting with clots the size of my hand (of course this is normal and I was just looking for attention though). I moved out at 18 and went to a new gyny because of severe pains and after talking with me did a whole load of tests and called me with the verdict. I was put on birth control because she was worried about cancer, but while it balanced out my periods...it made me gain a lot of weight and gave me chronic yeast infections. I stopped after a few months of that.
Right or wrong, I've been handling it on my own since then. A lot of herbal medicines is where I'm at. Chasteberry and Black Cohosh is good for bad cycles, Saw Palmetto and Licorice is good for testosterone suppressants. Red Raspberry leaf tea is good for PMS...and there's a whole lot more. But it's hard...at least for me. I have a very good friend of mine who has symptoms much heavier than mine, and I know the herbal stuff helps her too. But I'm still learning about all of it. |
