Hi Angie,
I'm sorta in the same boat as you. I thought about WLS but wasn't sure where to start. I had a Dr. appointment last week (on Monday) for my yearly exam and mentioned that I might be interested in WLS. Saying it out loud and to my dr. got me serious about it. I've been researching the different types of WLS and ended up picking something other than what I had originally thought about doing. I am having my orientation on Monday the 9th of March. I've already called my insurance to find out what they cover (turns out the only WLS they cover is the one I decided on...Thankfully!). They also don't have any requirements other than those required from the WLS clinic! However, We have pretty good insurance and not every insurance will be this easy to work with. I would call them immediately and see what requirements they have as some have a 6month supervised Diet requirement.
Tammy suggested Obesityhelp.com and I second that recommendation! I've only found them in the last couple of days and am so glad I did! They were a recommended link from the WLS clinic.
I have appointments set up for March for sleep clinic (to see if I have Sleep apnea) also for labs and everything else I can come up with that need to be done before WLS. Assuming that the free orientation is still as motiviating as some of the other stories, I'll call My Dr. on the 10th and get the other part of the ball rolling.
Tammy and Laura Beth both had some great points and I would really talk to them if you have questions! They have some great advise!!
