UK Newbie!! Hi all,
Been to and fro docs for a couple of months now as not had a period for nearly 5 months. I was on Cilest for about 10 years and never had any problems so we guessed it may just be a build up from the pill and doc advised me to come off for a month or two. Did some pregnancy tests to make sure and were all negative. Doc did smear test and checked for cysts - said she didn't find any. So anyway, after being off pill for 2-3 weeks, I went back and she took some bloods. She phoned me the next day to say my testosterone levels are high and its most likely to be PCOS, although she was surprised by the result as she hadn't expected this to be the diagnosis as I wasn't displaying any of the other symptoms - no weight gain (i.e. been 9 and a half stone for bout 2 years!). I'm naturally very dark and always put my hairiness down to this but now I'm wondering, is this because of PCOS?! So few questions for all you PCOS girlies out there: -
1. Does PCOS get worse with time? Does your fertility decrease with time i.e. should we start trying now for a baby rather than wait until after we're married in a couple of years?
2. Are there any foods/food groups I should be avoiding to lower my risk of diabetes - should I go on a GI diet or Atkins for example?
3. Has the PCOS developed as a result of something I have done? Or not done? i.e. I went through a phase of only eating one meal a day and having a very low calorie intake, would this have triggered it?
4. Why would the PCOS raise its head now whilst I was on the contraceptive pill? I've read that usually the contraceptive pill counteracts the effects of PCOS to regulate you - does this mean that I have it more severly than normal??
5. If I do have a severe form - are there are any others of you with this that have managed to concieve - is it basically a total no-no to kids once you have it or what?
6. Is there something to regulate/reverse it? Is there a 'cure'?
Any help/advice you could give would be really useful
Thanks
