I second everything that Laura & Tammy have said. WLS is not a fix but a tool and if completely thought out and researched it can be very successful for you. In addition to which surgeon to pick it's important to pick which surgery will be the best fit for you and your weight loss needs. For one it may be the lapband for another it may be the RNY and yet for another it may be the sleeve or DS. I knew that the RNY was best for me and I went in this order...
called my insurance to see if covered...the RNY was - 3/18/04
went to seminar - 4/20/04
went to primary for referral - given -4/21/04
went to consult with surgeon - 5/04
went to psych eval - 6/04
went to abdominal u/s, cardiac/pulmonary clearance for surgery - 6/04
went to support group - 6/04
had approval for surgery - 7/04
went to pre op nutritional class - 7/04
went to pre op appts/labs - 7/04
had surgery - 8/3/04
I'm now 4.5 years post op with 2 kids post op and doing well. I have a 20lb regain but it's pregnancy weight that hasn't yet come off. I'm confident that it will. If you have more questions I'd be happy to answer them. And of course if you have the posts you're more than welcome to pop in on the WLS Divas thread located on the D&E buddies forum...if not that's fine too...
