As far as a medicine to treat endometriosis, I unfortunately don't have any success stories in the ten years I've been dealing with the disease.
I think the medicine your doctor was referring to (that simulated menopause) is Lupron. Some women have luck with it, and others don't (I'm one of those that didn't). Like a previous poster mentioned, it's best to get the growths under control with surgical removal first, then manage your periods with a form of birth control. The only tecnnique that works for me is surgery, but I'm stage III and will probably be stage IV within two years, so aggressive therapy is necessary.
For pain relief, however, there are two drugs I highly recommend. For mild to moderate pain, I recommend Tramadol (Ultram). For severe pain, there's a form of Vicodin that has ibuprofin in it- it not only provides great pain relief, but also helps the inflammation issues associated with endo.
