I've got a question for those who are going into menopause. I'm 52, have had PCOS for 40 years, and am starting to show signs of menopause - mostly irregular periods. I've been on Metformin for at least a decade now; it has regulated my cycles very well. I recently stopped taking BCPs because of their impact on my blood pressure, but now my cycles have become very painful - mostly bad cramping and much heavier. My gynecologist this week recommended I consider an IUD - she warned me I can still become pregnant (i've been pregnant twice although the last one was more than 20 years ago). I'm engaged to be married so I do need to do something about this. Has anyone nearing menopause ever tried an IUD? My biggest concern was how would I know when it was time for it to come out? The gynecologist said my menopausal symptoms should be a good clue but my endocrinologist says my menopausal symptoms are likely to be very mild because I'm also overweight (working to lose that for the wedding!). I didn't see anything in the Mirena brochure about this. Anyone?
