My story is a tad weird. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17 and put on BC pills and just tolerated the weight gain and hairy neck and chest until recently since I was told I couldn't do anything about it. Found a doctor last year who was willing to let me try out Metformin even though my hormone levels seemed to be under control and I immediately lost 30Lbs without so much as even thinking about my diet or exercise! I went off it because of side effects like nausea that were interfering with my job and have slowly been putting weight on and am back to horrible periods and headaches which had eased up for awhile. I also noticed that my excess hair is growing faster than ever!! Yuck!
Anyway, after a few check ups and being told that aside from ovarian cysts that everything else looks normal; this new doctor put me back on metformin thanks to my begging for it now that I am working from home and can deal with the nausea that it may cause again. She also put me on 25mg daily of Spironolactone which she said will help the excess hair growth. She was afraid to start me out at a higher dose in fear that it would lower my blood pressure and it turns out that during my check up my blood pressure is already a little bit low! Wtf?!
Anyway, Iam wondering if anyone else is taking both? Should I even bother with the Spiro or just stick with Met? And can anyone reccomend a doctor/specialist in the Toronto area that actually knows more about PCOS??
I would love to hear anyone elses experiences with these meds before I take my first dose!
Thanks
