Endometrial hyperplasia is an overgrowth of the uterine lining that can turn cancerous if left untreated. It is common in menopausal women due to the increased levels of Estrogen, but PCOS women can get it since we don't shed our lining every month due to the lack of AF.

I had endometrial hyperplasia last year, and the only reason I went to the doctor was for irregular bleeding and spotting. They did a saline infused vaginal ultrasound to check for polyps and sent me for a D&C to clear out what they thought were polyps. In fact, it was endometrial hyperplasia- simple non-atypic (the non-cancer kind). If you start spotting at random times, you might want to get in to the doctor sooner, but I think I was a very strange case. My doctor acted like I shouldn't be getting hyperplasia at my age, so I don't think it is overly common.

After the D&C, they had me take provera regularly for three months to bring on AF, and they did an endometrial biopsy to make sure it hadn't grown back. We were given the clear to TTC in January, and I actually ovulated this month after taking Clomid. Now I am just waiting to see it I conceived.
