I have never ever had regular cycles. Before getting married and starting bcp, I would go 3-6 months without a period and then have light bleeding for a few weeks. Thinking back on that time, I may not have even been ovulating.
I was on bcp for about a year and a half before my husband and I decided to try for a baby, and by God's grace we got pregnant the first time I ovulated off bcp. After giving birth to my DS, I had irregular bleeding, but I just figured it was because of breastfeeding.
After I stopped breastfeeding, I had a monster of a period. It was heavier than I had ever had in my life, and it lasted about a month. I think my hyperplasia must have began sometime after this. I would have random spotting and light bleeding for a few weeks at a time, which was not actually ovulatory bleeding, but was caused by the hyperplasia. I didn't go to the doctor until I had one period that lasted for a month and I started feeling absolutely terrible. They scheduled me for a Saline Infused Ultrasound, which led to a D&C surgery to remove what they later discovered to be the hyperplasia. I was also diagnosed with PCOS from that ultrasound.
We had been wanting to get pregnant for close to a year at this point. My doctor put me on Provera and told me not to get pregnant for three months until I came in for a follow-up biopsy to make sure the hyperplasia hadn't come back. The provera worked to shed my lining, but I never ovulated on it. The biopsy came back fine, and we have been given the clear to TTC again. After a few months of trying on our own, I started Clomid last month and ovulated late on CD 27. I am currently 5 DPO and hoping for a pregnancy.
