Default Re: Am I losing my mind???

Hey there!

I'm so sorry to hear you are having problems with anxiety and the emotional crying spells... :-/

I have this too- For me it was at its worst when I was on a higher dose BCP. The week before my period, I would have pretty severe depression and anxiety. Now that I am off for about a year, it's starting even without the BCP. Also, I have the anxiety through the roof during my PMS week. I get really bad heart palpitations and I get really paranoid about my health problems and every little problem seems like a huge deal. It’s like the world is crashing down around me…

I really think it has something to do with the falling estrogen at the week before or lack of progesterone (if you're not ovulating). I've been to a cardiologist and multiple doctors about it- and they don't seem to get it at all…. (Arrrgh!!) But, if you look up menopause and anxiety attacks, women going through it tend to have heart palps. and anxiety attacks etc. and women going through menopause first lose their progesterone, because they stop having periods as often, and then their estrogen starts to go (contrary to popular belief, I've heard it's not the opposite- estrogen then progesterone.)

So... that would lead me to believe that its lack of progesterone related... But.. I missed my period for 2 months due to taking some herbs that were estrogenic (oops!) and I didn't have an anxiety attacks or heart problems the whole time... So, that leads me to believe that then it's due to estrogen falling right before getting our periods-which wouldn’t happen necessarily if you were on the pill. It would keep the levels raised. But, supplementing with estrogen sounds like totally the wrong thing to do for PCOS. :-/ I'm at a loss personally... and getting so fed up with the anxiety I'm thinking about going back on the pill. :-/

Good luck with things!!
