Well, firstly I must say I have never tried it - in fact my gynae refused it, saying I wasn't "overweight enough to benefit from it" and that he's not seen many good results with it. He also said that the side effects (toilet troubles) are really not worth it when you can potentially lose weight (slowly) more healthily rather than with medication, which, when you stop taking it, you will quite possibly go back to square one. That put things into perspective for me. I have lost a lot of weight since then all by myself (with a bit of help from Yasmin bcp perhaps). For me it is exercise. I don't need to be keeping fit like I'm in the army, but if I do nothing it really messes my metabolism up. So I aim to do at least an hour a day of brisk exercise and it has really helped since June last year.
I was originally asking about Metformin as I was sick of bcp, and had an IUD. But now I am glad I went on Yasmin as I also have endometriosis, so it's better this way.
I am not saying that people on Met don't see great results sometimes, but, personally for me, I couldn't stand the side effects, and feel much healthier doing the weight loss by myself.
From the perspective of using Met for encouraging ovulation, rather than suppressing it with bcp, my thoughts are (unless ttc), the more ovulation, the more chance of cysts, therefore giving my ovaries a break is better for me. Bcps have totally cleared my cysts, and for times that I have come off them for a few months here and there, I don't think any PCOS cysts developed (endo cysts yes!).
Sorry this is long, it's just complicated really lol!
Hope this helps xx |
