Hi Ladies....does anyone know if Metformin can help with acne?

I went to my gynacologist today and finally saw someone who believed that i have PCOS and not just cysts on my ovaries with a bit of bad skin! Joy of joys!

So i told her i was trying to conceive (although i am not strictly trying) in order to get some help as my previous doctor seemed to think going back on the pill was my only option. I have bad acne i think brought on my bcp in the first place so i refused. Anyway....i stupidly told her i was on Trimethoprim (antibiotic) for the acne and she then told me that i cant go on Metformin incase i get pregnant as it can cause birth defects because of the antibiotic.

So she suggested using a Progestogen to induce a withdrawal bleed once every 3 months and sticking with the antibiotic to see if it clears my skin before trying to conceive. I really really do not want to put any more synthetic hormones in my body and was wondering if i go on Metformin is it likely to have an addes bonus of clearing my skin. Does it balance hormones?

I am considering going back and demanding Metformin and making sure i am VERY careful with contraception (condoms). Does anyone have any postive experience with Metformin and Acne? I am not overweight and as far as i know have no insulin problems.

Any input would be appreciated!
