Hi frustrated!

I'm new here as well, so your post definitely spoke to me. When I read your words and learned the initial symptoms you experienced, I couldn't believe it--the excess hair on my chin was the first thing that I noticed, followed by missed periods. Then I had terrible acne issues as well, and went on Accutane for about 8 months (2007-2008). I too have had problems with weight, meaning I can't really eat what most people eat and still maintain my weight.

After missing my period for 2 months in a row and dealing with excess facial hair for about 2 years, I went to have my hormone levels tested and on the first try they found nothing abnormal--so, naturally, the doctor had nothing much to say and suggested birth control (I guess that's the solution they give when they have no answers). I, being the digger that I am, insisted on going for another blood test, and on that try, they found really high testosterone levels. Then, I was prescribed spironolactone, which is an androgen inhibitor (androgens are associated with acne, hair growth, weight gain, etc.).

BUT, I am lucky in that my father and sister are big proponents of alternative health, so through them, I've learned how much DIET has to do with PCOS and hormone imbalance. I'm not sure if you have already, but look up "PCOS and insulin resistance". Insulin is a major hormone in the body, and when it spikes too often (from eating processed foods, sugar, etc.) it can throw off other hormones and bodily systems. I've completely changed my diet in the past month and 10 lbs came off right away--which has never happened to me before in my life. I'm waiting for the hair growth to stop and my period to return, and I do get impatient and frustrated, AND sad/depressed, so that's why I'm here! Is changing your diet something you'd be able to do? The evidence speaks for itself--it's what we put into our bodies that determines their state, and it took me a while to wrap my head around that and let it set in.

W/b!! Welcome
