A progesterone draw, sometimes referred to as a P4, is a simple blood draw.
The results should tell if you have Ov'ed yet or not, and how strong/good the Ov was. Anything over 5 indicates Ov. When assessing the quality though, they like to see 15 or higher on medicated cycles.

It is best to have it on 7dpo. It sounds like your doctor is just checking to see if Ov has occurred though, rather than on it's quality. So they will most likely tell you "yes" or "no" and this can be misleading because you could Ov later in your cycle. Just something to keep in mind.
