Hi all - Everything online about PCOS seems to talk about the importance of losing weight, but my RE won't even put me on metformin because I'm underweight (5'9" and was 120 earlier this year...trying to work my way up to 125-130lbs). I went on 50mg of Clomid this year, O'd on both cycles and got a BFP on the second cycle. Sadly, it was a chemical pregnancy and I miscarried just shy of 5 weeks. I don't think my uterine lining was too thin b/c I was monitored and it was around 10mm at ovulation. Anyway, I met with a dietician who specializes in fertility to see if there was anything I could do naturally to try to help improve my chances of getting pregnant and staying pregnant, and she recommended that even thought I have PCOS, I should try to put on a few pounds (in a healthy low sugar way) as being underweight can cause low levels of the hormones needed to get and stay pregnant (I think she said estrogen and progesterone). So now I'm trying to put on a few lbs in a healthy way while staying on a low GI diet...and it's not easy! I'm trying to eat more avocados, nuts, etc..and just walk home from work to get a little exercise and not burn too many calories.
I've been thin my whole life, and I'm just having trouble finding answers for thin PCOS since everything seems to focus on women who are overweight with PCOS.
My RE wanted me to take a break from Clomid this month so my body can recover from the m/c, and I'm planning to start again next month.
Anyway, just wanted to find out if anyone out there is in the same situation, and if you were able to get a BFP and stay pregnant!
Thanks so much. It's so nice to have a thin PCOS page on this website
