I think many of us put too much pressure on ourselves to lose weight. We tend to go all hardcore and get burned out quickly and give up. Weight loss itself is a wonderful motivation to keep losing weight.

My suggestion to you would be to weigh in and get an official start weight. Then log ALL of your normal food intake for a week on a site like livestrong.com/thedailyplate or sparkpeople.com. See how many calories you're eating on average and the next week, then reduce it by 500 calories each day. Then weigh again in a week and see where you stand. 500 calories is easy to give up in a day when you're used to eating a lot of food. I promise you won't even miss it. When you've done that you can move onto the next step
