WOOT WOOT!!!
I began considering RNY-gastric bypass- about a year ago. I finally jumped on board after I saw the results my cousin had experienced! I finally began researching and had narrowed my surgeons down to 2. I attempted to make an appointment for the first surgeon's seminar only to find that after 2 hours of attempting to contact his office, I STILL had not talked to a person nor was I successful in getting at least to a call tree. I felt in my heart that the second surgeon was right for me all along. So I called the second surgeon and after half of a ring and 1 option in a call tree, I was booked for his seminar! That easily and quick. (After hours I called his office just to see how prompt the after hours service was. I heard maybe 2 rings and an operator answered!)
So I continued on my path to WLS, looking through the good and the bad. Watching YouTube clips, TLC specials, reading literature, etc. and finally went to the seminar. Dr. Steinberg not only talked about the wonderful benefits from this surgery, he made sure to drill into us the risks associated with surgery. After the seminar, I continued to pursue educating myself about the pros and cons of the surgery and made my appointment to meet with him.
As I spoke with him and informed him about my PCOS, he informed me that I was an ideal candidate and he also informed me of a few of his other patients who became preggers post-op! He is so down to earth and VERY easy to talk to.
I recieved my packet including my checklist which had to be completed with the prior authorizations and clearances. The first appt I made was for the Pulmonary clearance. I remember being SOOOOO upset because it was a month and a half out. After about a week of complaining (PCOS moment), I sucked it up and realized I could use that timeline to my advantage by setting up my other appointments in the mean time. I tell you that time passed with a BREEZE! I saw my psychologist, my PCP, the nutritionist and finally the pulmonologist. I submitted my information to the surgeon's office about 2 or 3 days before I went on vacation with my BFF, SN3W14, and began praying like there was no tomorrow!
We went on last Sunday and I had NOT thought about the application at all. On Tuesday, May 12th, I woke up that morning and ate breakfest. The thought of getting home the following week so I could wait for my approval ran across my mind, but I quickly brushed it off; not wanting to rush my vacay. So I sit on my bed and I hear my cell phone ring. I screened the call and I saw it was DeKalb Medical. I figured it was the nutritionist calling to inform me I had another payment to make. So I answered and much to my surprise it was Dr. Steinberg's coordinator informing me I had been approved!!!!
I've scheduled both of my pre-op visits for the same day I meet with Dr. S for the last time before surgery! I'm so excited and I can't wait to finally have the "TOOL" I desperately need for weight loss! I'll definitely keep you ladies posted with before and after pics!
(Another PCOS rambling moment!)
