Default PCOS help in Birmingham

Am new to the site and so have only just come across this thread but hope my experience can help any Birmingham PCOS sufferers find help.

I was diagnosed at 20 (now 28) but did not really understand or seek help for my PCOS until my hair started to fall out a couple of years ago. After a couple frustrating visits to the doctor and being persistent, I was referred to a PCO clinic run at City Hospital, Birmingham. The clinic is run by Dr. Gabrielle Downey (who recently featured on C4's The Hospital) who is an OB/GYN who suffers from PCOS herself. I initially saw a junior doctor who told me that my hair loss was due to BCP and got so frustrated that I paid to see Dr. Downey privately at The Priory, Birmingham. She was fantastic and her realistic but proactive approach gave me so much hope. She tweaked my metformin dose to help me lose weight and recommended two drugs that might help my hair. Unfortunately I have yet to resolve my hair problem (cyproterone and finasteride) but would definitely recommend Dr. Downey as someone who will listen to you and help. I did get to see her on my subsequent visit to City Hospital so do persist in getting a referral to her service and getting to see her in person.

Hope this is helpful!
