Hi Nicole, I also am dealing with long heavy periods, I went to my new gyno and she said because I go so long with out a period it just keeps building up and my lining gets thicker and thicker so when it get to thick it sheds causing a heavy flow that lasts for weeks with large clots(sorry gross i know) she put me on a large dose of progestrone(prometrium) and it is suppose to help stop the build up of the lining. I beleive birth control can help as well and will regulate your period. I would try to find a pco friendly gyno. I hope this helps and know that there are others like you dealing with the same thing.
