Hi,
I just registered today.
I'm 38, have been TTC for several years, but was only just recently diagnosed with PCOS from an ultrasound. I'd had a previous u/s about two years ago, and it had been normal.
I never suspected PCOS as being behind my problems previously as I'm not terribly overweight (maybe 10-15 lbs and I'm still a size 6, though it's a VERY stubborn 10-15 lbs) but I do have some (argh!) facial and bellybutton hair, as well as sharp little ovarian pains around the middle of the month. I've never had acne in my life, though I do have some symptoms of insulin resistance as does my father. I've long suspected I had some sort of hormonal imbalance, though blood tests always appeared normal. I'm relieved to have a diagnosis, which I find preferable to knowing something is wrong by nobody can figure out what.
I'd previously been to a Naturopath who'd told me I was gluten intolerant. I've tried that for a year now (with only a little cheating when travelling) but I found that it hasn't helped my symptoms at all and can be pretty sure at this point that wheat was not behind my hormonal issues. However, it seems that low-carb diets are preferred when dealing with insulin-resistance so I shouldn't go back to sandwiches and pasta just yet
I've already found some very useful information. I haven't been put on any meds yet as I've only just been referred to a specialist, but my Dr. said I'd probably be put on Metformin.
Anyway, I hope I can add something positive and informative to whatever conversation I drop into, though I do tend to be more of a lurker!
