Default Regular met vs. extended release

I'm soooo confused.

I have lean PCOS with normal fasting glucose levels. I am trying to conceive.

Last month, I met with one RE (Dr. Zouves in Foster City) who prescribed metformin ER 1000 mg once a day.

Then last week, I met with a second RE (Dr. Zeringue in Davis) who said that he's seen regular met work better. He wrote me an RX for regular metformin 850 mg/twice a day.

Was anyone else told this by their doctor? I'm willing to try the regular met, but I'm a little scared about the side effect. On ER I just had a headache for a week or two and I have some constipation.

Thoughts? Advice? Thanks!
