Romance is a wonderous thing -- I met my man on Netmeeting. Two webcams, an expensive memory upgrade, and a peculiar way of chatting on ICQ with the keyboard and watching each other on the cameras on Netmeeting with the occasional bit of garbled laughter and more than a few encounters with the blue screen of death, and we fell for each other.

He was an Australian in London, England and I was a small town redneck tomboy from Nowhere, Minnesota. I threw any shred of good sense I ever had to the wind and I got a passport and a plane ticket and flew to London to meet him. I almost didn't come back when my holiday was over. I moved to London later that year and we married a year to the day from our first chat. It was the most wonderous, crazy, magical adventure.

That was 12 years ago, and I'd like to say we stayed together and has lots of sex and babies, but not every fairy tale has a happy ending. We parted after few years having discovered that we weren't really meant to be together forever. And PCOS was too much for him too, he made more than a few cracks about excess body hair. I could probably grow a better beard now than he could.

The divorce wasn't much fun, but that was many years ago now and, despite that, I have no regrets. I've stayed in England and spend my spare time pretending I'm on a permanent holiday.

Someday, I may go back to Nowhere, Minnesota -- if I get bored here -- but then I don't see that happening anytime soon. If I find another man that I think I can live with (and mind you I'm a bit pickier now) I may get married again... but then maybe I won't. What I do know is that I intend to be used up, worn out, and ready for a rest when my name hits the top of the Grim Reaper's list.
