Question Would it be wise to stop taking the pill??

Hello everyone, this is my first post on the board though I've looked at the site a few times

I was diagnosed with PCOS in Summer 2007 and have been on the pill ever since. So it's been two years on the pill, and my period now comes every month (instead of every 2-3 months). I only went on the pill because my OB-GYN suggested it. I was having pains during my past few periods, saw my OB-GYN, got ultrasounds, etc... I asked my OB-GYN when I would be able to stop taking the pill, and she more or less said "Whenever you think you don't need it any more". I thought this was stupid response because 1) I'm not sexually active 2) I did the not request the pills to begin with. Until my most recent ultrasound, I had never had any cysts. The results of the ultrasound showed that I had some cysts that ruptured.

Sorry for long post, but basically, what is the point of me being on birth control if 1) I'm not sexually active and 2) I still got cysts. BC really adds up and I'm starting to think that it's an unnecessary expense. I'm tried looking up info on the internet about stopping my pill, but all I find is PCOS women who are trying to get pregnant. What will happen if I stop taking the pill?
