If it were me, I would go on metformin and use that while pregnant like your dr. suggests. While a lot of these alternative remedies have yielded remarkable results, their safety during pregnancy leaves a lot of question marks, and it seems no one really knows. Met at least has been the subject of studies which have shown it to be safe in pregnancy. Once baby is born, you could always go back to the alt. remedies. I was on a number of them for various things and stopped once pregnant - it's not worth the risk, IMO, since there haven't been any well-controlled studies about them.
