Woo-Hoo, good gift! Just hang on to the box and packing slip. If it doesn't work for you, send it back for a refund or exchange. Of course I doubt they'll accept it if you cut it first. But like another reviewer on hsn said, you can't just plop a piece on your head and expect it to look perfect. So take your time and try it this way and that way, have fun with it and make it work for you. Hope it does!
What color are you getting?
Oh, and my mom cut that one for my while I wore it. Maybe someone with a good eye and steady hand can for you, too - otherwise, take it to a real stylist.
