Don't buy another model, I have an emjoi and its great.
Is yours specifically a facial epilator? You can get ones designed especially for the face, I believe they aren't as wide and they might be more effective.
I know as horrible as it sounds, you might want to let your facial hair grow out a bit and then try epilating. Perhaps try it on a weekend or holiday when you know you wont see to many people? lol
I have been using an epilator on my legs and underarms for almost 4 years now and I would consider the hairs in those areas to be as wispy or even better than someone with 'regular' hair growth. I love it so much, and its saved me so much money in razors!
Also with the spiro, I could be wrong, but I believe it can cause people side effects such as water retention? Perhaps your doctor is being cautious with dosage as its a long-term drug (ie have to be on it for a few months before you see results) and there will be plenty of time to increase the dosage.
