My doctor wasnt helpful or comforting and basically told me that it was my fault I have PCOS because I am overweight and that I probably wouldnt be able to have children. I later found that this wasnt exactly true and that it wasnt my fault. However, I am too afraid to go back to the doctors as I dont want to feel how I did last time, but i really need some help.

My fiance and I moved to Bristol last september and I still havent signed up to the doctors yet, I really want to but am so scared of being humiliated and made to look the fool. I am overweight, I was 20stone 3 lbs 2 months ago but am now 19stone 5 pounds and am continuing the weight loss. I am much healthier now due to quitting smoking and the amount of exercise I now do. I know I need to sign up at the doctors just need some more courage.

I need help with my hair growth issues as it is only getting worse even though I am loosing weight. I have hair on my face and neck which I have to shave daily and has a bad shaving rash that I cant seem to sooth and I am developing more hair on my back and breasts and my lower arms, hands and feet. I feel disgusted with myself and less and less feminine each day. I have heard about Metformin and other treatments but aparently you need to be a certain weight to get these tablets? is this true? does anyone know what weight I need to reach to be allowed on the treatments? also does anyone have any of these problems too? and know how i can treat my shaving rash? Sorry this is such a long post! x
I'm 21 also and I was just diagnosed. Basically the gyn who gave me the prognosis (what PCOS leads to: diabetes, hypertensions, infertility) told me that all I can do is try to walk it off meaning excercise. I hear that's the best medication since weight loss helps to "reverse" some if not all of the symptoms. However there's no known cure for PCOS.

I haven't had a period since November 2008 and I'm not on birth control and if I don't get a period again by November 2009 I'm going on medication. I don't think there's a weight limit for Metformin, but I wouldn't know for sure.

The first doctor you went to is a complete and total a-hole. To make you feel bad about your weight is totally unprofessional. How was that going to help you? Doesn't he/she know that PCOS causes MASSIVEweight gain?

I hate it when those know-it-all physicians pick on overweight patients just because they can. What you need to do now is find an endocrinologist since they can help you get on the proper medications. Bypass all those silly doctors and gynecologists who want to label us PCOS sufferers as freaks who "brought the condition upon themselves." That's just a sick mentality.

Truth is most of us were showing symptoms of PCOS before puberty.

As for the excessive hair growth I haven't found anything to treat it besides waxing or shaving. Waxing is better since it keeps the hair off longer. Shaving just makes it grow back thicker. I don't know if they have "Nair" where you live, but that's a good inexpensive product.

Hair is embarrassing. I get it on my chin and above my lip. This makes me feel so un-womenly.
