Well, I went to the other doctor who is suppose to be very knowledgeable dealing with PCOS. Thank God for a cancellation! Anyway, I was just very honest with him, and told him what the first ob/gyn recommended, and then what the endocrinologist said. I told him that I was very scared, and was not sure which way to go.
Let me tell you, I wish that I had found this doctor YEARS ago. He was the nicest doctor I think I have ever been to and very thourough (sp?). He decided that his best course of action was to do an ultrasound himself and see what he was dealing with. So, he does the u/s and said that he also thinks I need to have a hysterectomy. He asked me exactly what the other ob/gyn said, and I told him he just said that I had a multi-cystic mass caused by PCOS, and I needed a hysterectomy. He said actually, its not cysts, its multiple growths. He said this is NOT what we usually find in a pcos patient. This is something different, which he named, but I can't remember what he said. He also noticed something funny with my uterus. He said that he fully understands my endo's concerns and that he was more than willing to discuss things with him before the surgery so that he was aware of what was found. He said that the hysterectomy will not make the PCOS symptoms go away (which I already knew, but I am glad he didn't sound like an goober) but that I may find that my quality of life is better and some things may get better, worse, or stay the same. He said it is really different in each patient, but sometimes things like this type of growth become top priorty. He said if I wanted him to do the surgery, he would be more than willing to do it. He also said that he will work closely with me and my endo afterwards to make sure that everyone is on the same page regarding my care.
Anyway, I just really feel like this guy is the best ob/gyn I have EVER been to. I, believe it or not am not freaking out about the surgery, and I even have the date scheduled for it which is July 28th. I know that the closer it gets I will probably start to get a little worried, but I at least feel comfortable with the answers I was given, and the reasons for the hysterectomy made sense.
