At least the way it was explained to me by my nutritionist, IR is when your body can't control the sugars in your body/food with the normal amount of insulin. It causes it to produce more insulin than you would normally need. It can make it much harder for us to lose weight and can also be a contributing factor in the physical appearance of cysts of on our ovaries. That's what I've been told at least!

The diet that was suggested to me allows me to eat 135 grams of carbs a day and that helps to control the sugar in the body and therefore keeps the insulin levels lower.
