i m meeetin for my endo for the first time tomorrow. what should i be looking forward to?? what questions should i asked?? any help will be appreciated. tx
I am in the process of getting a referral to the endo as well. I would be really interested in knowing what to expect as well!
I was also wondering ... does anyone know how how much time you will have to spend at a fertility clinic when seeking fertility treatment? I realize it depends on the course of treatment, but do you sometimes need to go once a week for cycle monitoring? It is a 45 commute for me, so I am just wondering how much time I will be needing to take off of work....
Good luck with your appointment:-) Let me know how it goes!

How did your appointment go? I have an appointment with an endo at the end of April and also wondering what to expect (I have to drive 1 1/2 hours to get to mine).

I would like to know this as well. I'm off to see an Endo on Friday. For what I gather from the one I'm going to, they have a checklist for you to see if you have any of the mentioned symptoms. If you do then more than likely you have PCOS. From there on, I don't know if they are going to order blood work, or just look over my file, and go with what I'm having issues with (acne/facial hair). I guess another thing to tell them of how often or no often your cycles come on, what your are eating and whatever.
Here is the Questionaire:
PCOS QUESTIONNAIRE
This questionnaire is an assessment of your possible need for further evaluation for a disorder called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). If you have one or more "yes" answers, it would be advisable to follow up with a medical provider who specializes in the evaluation and treatment of PCOS.
Do you have irregular/infrequent menstrual cycles?
Do you have excess hair growth on your upper lip, chin, lower abdomen or
inner thighs?
Do you have darkening &/or thickening of the skin on the back of your neck
armpits, or under your breasts?
Do you have recurrent cysts or "boils" in the groin area?
Is your waist circumference >35 inches?
Do you or another family member have a history of diabetes?
Have you had trouble achieving pregnancy?
Clients with PCOS often require medication and specialized behavioral changes to achieve improvement in their healthcare. If you have one or more yes answers to the above questionnaire and would like further evaluation, our center would be happy to speak with you.

Hi there,
I hope your appointments go well. If you are going to TTC, I am not sure how your RE will proceed but for me I went once for the consult and they gave me prometrium to force ovulation. That cycle I went back shortly after the end of AF for an HSG, I went again around ovulation for the post-coital test, again 7 days after ovulation for bloodwork and then again on the first day of the next AF. While on just Clomid, I only went once a month at the beginning of AF for an ovary check. Now that I am doing IUI, I go once at the start of AF, usually twice near ovulation, and then again at ovulation for the IUI.
Your first two months with the RE will require the most appointments for all the initial tests. After that it will depend on the treatment plan and will range from once per month to multiple times at about 2 week intervals.
I would imagine for those going to an endo and are not currently TTC that a series of tests will be ordered and depending on your symptoms and items to adjust that after the initial few appointments and possible monthly follow-ups for a few months then probably every 6 months or once per year will work unless something changes.
Good luck to you all!!!

I must say I should have found this woman like 6 years ago and perhaps it would have saved me alot of wasted time. What was important to me was that she would take my conditon seriously and not treat me like some headccase or write me off as "hormonal". She was basically talking about the stuff I've already researched on here.
She basically asked me what I was there for, and let me kind of give her my verbal history of how I ended up at her office. She did an trasvaginal ultrasound where I found out I have the classic "string of pearls" on my right ovary and a fibroid. Yeah the latter kind threw me for a loop. She did point out that it was small and she would keep an eye out for the size. Of course we discussed getting conceiving but since I'm not on that path yet, she said we would like in treating the facial/acne issues that I'm having. Sounded like she was leaning towards putting me on Met or Spiro. I have to tommorw for my whole panel of blood work and my fasting test as well.
So that is how my visit went. Now I'm sure the discussion would have been different if I were TTC.

I just came home from a visit to my brand spanking new endo. He was very nice and all. But would only put me on met OR spiro. I chose met. He said we'll see how that does until I see him next in June. Does that sound right? I know a lot of women here are taking both. So what's that about? Oh and my bloodwork came back normal. All of it. Normal normal. Mostly not even in the high range of normal. Anyone know what the hell that's about??

"I've tripped again and things are starting to get interesting..."
Quote of the day: "When my eyes get all glazed and my head starts bobbing, don't try to listen for the music. There is no music. There is just me. I'm dreaming."
I wish you good luck with your endo. I saw mine for the first (only?) time a week ago.
We went into his office and he proceeded to check out my bloodwork and tell me all the reasons he thought I [i]didn't[i] have PCOS. Regardless of what I read and all the preparing I did to talk to him, I just sat there and cried thinking that yet again, no one was going to help me.
He didn't order any extra bloodwork, no exam.
On the bright side, I did talk him into giving me Met. I am only on 500mg for a month, then go to my PCP to get it upped to 1000 and so on.
I know there is something wrong with me. I know my hormone levels are off. They just aren't off enough to bother him.
So, anyway, my real point is, if you are anything like me and can't get through an appointment without turning into a blubbering mess, write out a list of your symptoms and questions. I forgot everything as soon as I was in there.
