Default 2 Hour Test for IR to get MET

My doctor said she doesn't treat weightloss... (OB)

She said that she will give me the 2 hour test tomorrow.. to see if I'm IR... and if I end up being IR... then she'll give me MET...

It hurts me to see women who aren't IR on MET on this board.. and I can't get my doc to do it..

My doc put me on Met straight off, no IR test...if you are PCOS it isn't treating weight loss, its treating polycyctic ovaries. I am IR now but it shouldn't matter either way. i would think of switching docs...if you don't mind me putting in my 2 cents.

Ok is this a 2 hour glucose test? If so that cant tell you if you are IR. You need your insulin levels checked for that. I guess they could test your insulin after you drink the stuff. But I have never heard of that for IR.

GL! I was also given Met as soon as I was diagnosed and I am not IR. I have been on Met for about 6 years. I would definately get a 2nd opinion if she doesn't give you the Met. Try to find a RE that knows a little about PCOS.

I would do some internet research and print off copies of everything I could find showing that studies show you would benefit. Then she couldn't really argue, at least not without a really good reason.

http://www.labtestsonline.org/unders...istance-2.html

This is the first article I've read that suggests using Triglycerides and HDL to diagnose IR. In US measurements, Triglycerides > 130 or Triglycerides divided by HDL > 3.0 or Fasting Insulin > 15 are all markers to diagnose IR.

Thank you.
I'm printing articles as we speak.. Going to give them to her... alot of articles that say that PCOS should be a standard treatment for all PCOS..

Like these articles: http://www.endo-society.org/publicat...0on%20PCOS.pdf

They discuss that it could be good to further PREVENT type 2 diabertes from happening...
