Default 2 months on Met, No AF

I've been on Met now for 2 months, 1 month and 1 week on 1500mg. I have been feeling a little PMS in the last few days but no AF :-(. My acne has improved a lot and I am WAY less moody than before, and the 'toilet-related' side-effects of Met are not an issue now. But still, no AF.

A bit of background, for 9 years I was on Diane 35/Estelle due to irregular periods and acne. When I went off BCP 1.5 years ago, I've had AF 3 times. I was diagnosed with PCOS last year.

I see that many people on Met get AF really quickly. Any advice, tips, comments?

From what i have read on here and other places, it really depends on the person as to how quickly metformin takes effect. I have just started met, today is my 3rd day i am taking 500mg then upping to 1000mg next week. I know how you feel in terms of the anticipation and stuff but stay positive.

I have read that it can take around 6 months to kick in with some people and sometimes 1500mg isnt enough to get it started with some people, and they have had to take 2000mg of it but i dont think alot of dr's like prescribing more than 1500mg so just keep hoping or speak to your dr about maybe being upped on the dosage and see what their opinion is!

Best of luck!

I started Met last August and got my first AF on my own in October. AF came back in November then skipped out on me in December. She did return this month so needless to say I'm still having regularity issues.

I have heard it can take up to 6 months for met to work. It worked for me right away, but I am also on 2000mg so that may make a difference. I would give it a little more time and then maybe speak with your doctor about increasing your dosage if it is still not working.

I feel your worries. I've been on Met for almost 3 weeks and I'm wondering if AF will show up anytime soon. It's been months since I've had it on my own, and so far there's no sign I'll get this month either. My doc wants me to get my bloodwork done again next month to see how I'm responding to it. Then he'll up my dosage if necessary. I'm on 1000mg right now. I'm wondering if that will help.

Thank you everyone for your posts. You've certainly calmed me down a little. Today I started 2 x 850mg of Met per day, (So 1700mg). I wonder if this will help a little. I'm sure my extra worrying isn't helping things either.

Kc_Angel - please let me know how it goes for you on Met and when AF arrives. Are you TTC?
Chandtisse - That is great news that you got AF. I hope it becomes regular.
KitKat77 - thanks for the advice re: dosage. I am now on 1700mg, let's see how that goes for the next month. If not, I'll go back to Dr.
Ange7894 - Good luck with the Met. I felt the side-effcts start to subside at around 3 weeks. If you get the bloodwork done next month, please let us know what exactly you get done, so I can ask my Dr. too.

I am in the same boat. I have been on Metformin for a month now and no AF. I started with 500 for a week, then 1000mg for 2 weeks. My OB/GYN told me to go straight from 1000mg to 2000mg. Last Wednesday I started 1500mg and yesterday, I started 2000mg. I hope it brings on AF soon. My doctor is suppose to call me back today sometime to tell me if she would like me to take prometrium to start AF. I am a little nervous being on 2000mg Metformin because I am a thin cyster (5'0 and 95Ibs).
