Default 2 week long period

My cycles are usually very irregular with a period about every 3 to 4 months. This year has been good; I've had a cycle about every other month. Then AF lasts between 3-5 days, never longer than that. Well, today is day 17 of AF. It's not heavy. In fact, not enough enough need to change a pad during the day (tmi, I know), but it's still annoying since it's still there. This is the first time this has ever happend. Anyone else ever have a long AF? Is this normal for PCOS? I don't want to overreact and run to the Dr since I feel fine and I'm due in Nov. for a yearly anyway. Any ideas why it might be longer than normal? Thanks.

I had AF induced by Provera...I'm on my 15th day of my period...
I started BCP's this month too (haven't used in over 8 years)...
I also started Met @ 500mg....

I'm really starting to doubt my decision to do the meds....
It seems like I'm increasing problems & not getting rid of any....

Hope to see feedback from lots of others!!

Good Luck to you!!

It could be a cyst. If you keep spotting you may want to see your dr. sooner.

macrod-
I see you posted it could be a cyst causing prolonged period....
Are you talking about the typical cysts caused by PCOS?
Would starting all the meds cause my "oodles" of cysts on each ovary to start doing something?
How does a cyst cause prolonged bleeding?
(Sorry if I seem so "duh" about this....I've never heard it mentioned about cysts causing the bleeding....Very interesting!)

I did call my Dr yesterday....The nurse said if I am still bleeding when it's time to start my new pack of BCP to call & they may have me come in for a scan....

Thanks!

I was bleeding/spotting 3 weeks out of the month. This started back in July. My gyno thought that it may be a fibroid and ordered a transvaginal ultrasound done. The test showed a cyst on my ovary. The cyst was a 6cm-pretty big. We are retesting in two weeks but to date the spotting has tapered down to just one week. My gyno said that cyst can cause bleeding in between cycles. I have not had a cyst cause me problems like this in years. Especially since I have been on the pill. So, I am not as informed as I should be. Call you dr. to make an appt. for an ultrasound.
