Unhappy 25 with this damned condition

Hi everyone, im Megs and 25. Im really glad to find what looks like a great support center.

Ive had awful pcos related problems since i was 15. First symptoms/problems i started having were extemely heavy, irregular periods and awful cramping. Then a few years later it was dealing with super oily skin, acne and facial hair. Last one is the weight gain(30lbs in one year, i eat pretty healthy dont always get enough exercise but i still knew something was wrong) Its been a frustrating journey, I feel like i should've known more but jsut figured it was puberty) and have regrets for not getting earlier treatment. Now im getting on track and have been for regular blood testing and one intra uterine ultrasound since 2008. I wasnt suprised that i was found to be anemic from the heavy periods, my blood tests however didnt show a major hormonal imbalance and ultrasound showed that everything internally was normal except for a small, ruptured cyst.

My gyno told me from my symptoms i most likely have pcos though, so im still confused because my blood test didnt show a hormonal problem and thats whats also behind pcos?
I was on birth control for a year, controled my oliy skin and bleeding but suffered chest pains, ive tried 5 brands but was worried about the side affects and have since stopped. I dont know how you guys manage but i know i'll find a way.

BTW: my last blood glucose test in july '08 was normal. Still doesnt make me feel better cause pcos sucks big time.*sigh*

I understand fully how you feel. I have the exact same problem. My OB/Gyn said my blood test came back fine and my HSG revealed that my ovaries and uterus were fine also, so why did she still put me on Metformin. I have asked her about it and she said it was because i need to regulate my periods and hormones.

Wink

Yeah, the normal hormone levels are normal for PCOS. Mine have always been normal but I definately have PCOS. The only hormone that was high was my insulin (my glucose level was always very normal). And that alone will mess all the female stuff up because it will make your body produce too much androgen (testosterone). Usually drs put us on Met to get our bodies sensitive to the insulin so it can be used. I was taking 2000mg of Met for years and I never felt like it was doing anything. I would really recommend d-chiro-inositol. I've been taking it since April and I now have a cycle (never had one without BCP). I absolutely love it. If you would like to know more go to chiralbalance.com and on the home page there is a short video that explains how it works in the body it.

also check this thread out it explains why lab result say normal it's a sticky in the PCOS General forum:

By the way artsybabemegs & bookie0116, Welcome to SoulCysters! You'll love it here!

My diagnosis came with no real "testing" per say. It was based on symptoms. Best of luck to you in finding the path that works best for you.
