25 lbs of Canned Tuna! Share your Tuna Recipes Here!
DH and I belong to a food coop, which is so nice because we get to order natural and organic foods at wholesale costs.
We eat a lot of fish, and we usually order a case of frozen salmon each month, but this time DH wanted frozen ahi tuna.
Well he misread the catalog and what he thought was frozen tuna steaks ended up being six 66.5 oz CANS of chunk light tuna. That's just under 25 lbs of canned tuna!
So, besides tuna salad sammies and tuna casserole, what can you make with canned tuna?
I don't think we eat a lb a year of canned tuna, and now we have twenty-five lbs.
I have made "fried" tuna patties similar to salmon patties...
Mix the tuna with breadcrumbs (I used crushed croutons instead because they are lower in carbs), salt and pepper and a beaten egg, then flatten into patties and "fry" for just about 2 min on each side in a skillet coated with butter-flavored non-stick spray.
10 ounce tube of refrigerated biscuits
1 can tuna (6 1/2 or 7 ounce drained)
1 cup chedder or american cheese diced
3 tablespoons of mayonaise
1/4 teaspoon of prepared mustard
paprika
Pre-Heat oven to 375 degrees. Remove biscuits from tube Pat each biscuit into a oval shape 3 1/2 inch oval. put half of the biscuits on a greased cookie sheet. Mix the tuna, cheese, mayo and mustard together. Spread onto each biscuit. Top with remaining biscuit, pressing biscuits together with fingertips or a fork. Sprinkle with paprika ontop and bake for about 20 minutes or until done. This recipe serves 5 Tuna Fold Overs
1 can tuna
4 c lettuce (I prefer romaine.. but whatever you like)
1 cucumber,diced
1 jalapeno pepper, minced
2 tomatoes, diced
2 Tbs olive oil
juice from one lemon
salt and pepper to taste
mix all together ... is very yummy... and you can add any veggies you like.. also add some chickpeas if you want to up the nutrition...

I've used canned tuna mixed with some chopped green onions and a little rice vinegar as a filling for sushi. Obviously this is not the raw fish sushi when you use canned tuna! It was pretty good. I like to have extra rice vinegar to dip the sushi in. Yummy!

I love tuna, but I think it's best to not eat too much while BFing. Perhaps you could use the cans as attractive doorstops and paperweights?
Seriously, I've never seen a 6 pound can of tuna!
Mix a good chunk of it with softened cream cheese, a bit of mayo, lemon juice and a lot of dried dill with a dash of cayenne, and you will have a great dip for crackers, though!
I'll use your recipes for the first 2 giant cans, but the rest are off to a shelter I think.
Snowbunny,
I was just about to post a suggestion of giving some of it away. Good for you, and thank you, I'm sure the people who are fed from it will appreciate
My mom used to make creamed tuna on toast" (a link in case you are interested: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf558755.tip.html ). I hated the stuff, and can barely stand tuna salad...so, I have no canned tuna recipies. Sorry
Broil bread in the oven on one side so it's nicely toasted and flip the toast over and put on you tuna mix (mix anyway you like I just generally do tun and mayo, but you can mix as if you do for tuna sandwiches) place some sliced chees ontop (any kind you like) and toast that side until desired liking...
I think there is a way of doing it closed face too, but I like it open face...
