Default 3 apples a day diet?

Has anyone tried this diet.

It seems pretty easy, eat an apple before each meal, drink water with each meal... and have two snacks per day.

From what I've read the fiber in the apple will decrease what you eat at each meal. Also, the sugar in the apples will help eliminate sweet cravings.

Besides eating fruit is good for you.

Any thoughts?

Sugar is sugar. And apples do have sugar (fructose, sucrose, and glucose). A diet high in sugar may be a contributing cause of insulin resistance and obesity. Eating sugar will make you crave more sugar.

Some fruit is good for you... however, if you're trying to lose weight, I would be skeptical about eating 3 apples a day. Why not eat a serving of low-sugar veggies like cauliflower, broccoli, or spinach instead?

I would get so tired of eating 3 apples a day, I think. I always have one in the afternoon as my snack, but I don't think I could eat 3. I do notice that eating an apple makes me more alert and does fill me up though.

I have 2 small apples a day, most days, usually around 4.30-5.30 before I start work or at my first break. The days I do it, it makes a huge difference to how hungry I am at dinner (which isn't until after 9pm when I finish work) and as a result I tend to eat less calories overall. But thats because if I go into the evening hungry I have a tendency to graze until I go to bed. I originally started doing it just cos I was eating no fruit at all.

My mum did an apple diet once, she had her usual 3 meals and ate nothing else in between other than apples. She was eating 3-4 a day but they were replacing high sugar/fat foods so she lost a bit of weight as a result of decreasing her calorie intake.

It recommended for a balanced diet that you eat at least 2 servings of fruit and at least 3 of veggies so as long as you aren't already eating 4 or 5 servings of fruit each day you wont be overdoing it.

Before you start though, I'd recommend you look at the amount of calories you are already eating each day, then add in your apples and a few days later count the calories again to see if its actually helping you consume less.

i think that this sounds a little bit of a faddy diet to be honest. if you eat apples before your meals but have calorie laden meals afterwards then it really is not going to make a lot of difference, the only thing it is going to do is fill you up a little before your meal and maybe stop you eating as much for your meal. other than this i can't see any more benefits. i would follow a more reputable diet.
