Fed up I am, totally fed up. Been diagnosed with PCOS/diabetes II now for 5 years and nothings happening. They've put me on meds for diabetes (Met & Avandia) but they really don't care.
Whenever I go to the specialist, I get moaned at for not losing weight. Can't they understand how damn difficult it is to lose weight having PCOS?
I just tend to get treated as a fat, lazy person who for some reason can't stop eating and has diabetes. But that's not true. Yeah I'm fat, but I'm certainly not lazy - I have a full time job - and I barely eat that much. Morning is bowl of fibre cereal, lunch is usually pasta and dinner is salad. Yet I still get moaned at. I don't even each fat - everything I eat is low/non fat, so what's the point of trying to put me on Xenical, when all that does is stopped fat being stored........
I never get someone who wants to help me with my symptoms of PCOS - never - it's always just the diabetes clinic I have to see and they don't understand.
Sorry for the rant, but it does make me sick being only 34 and having diabetes II. It's like being punished for having a hormonal problem.
I know how you feel, but I gotta admit I am eating the wrong stuff, I am comfort eating because of my depression which is because of my living situation.... talk about going around in circles....
I am also in the same boat (turned 34 and have T2/PCOS). I have no idea what is good to eat that DOES NOT have sugar and poking myself to check my sugar.
Does it get better then this? I really hope so because I am not getting any younger.
Yes it does get better. I've been type two diabetic now for 2 yrs. Wow... Didn't even realize my "anniversary" passed. I'm crazy busy at the moment so I don't check here (this board) often. I've got twin boys 5 months old. And a 9 and a half yr old son. Anyway, one thing you said in your initial post set off alarms for me... pasta!!! No no no.... I know it's so tempting, but that's a big no no with d. To many carbs. Anything white... pasta, breads, rice, flour, is a no no. They'll cause you high sugars. They also stick to the hips. I had lost 30+ pounds in the year before I got pregnant, have since gained it back with the twin pregnancy. And am back to loosing now.
I'm sorry your dr is being a jerk. So is mine. I'm currently on byetta, as it helps some loose weight, and so far so good. 5 pounds in one month.

The other thing that I noticed about your meals is that there isn't any protein. I would recommend that you see a nutritionist so that you can learn more about a balanced plan that incorporates healthy carbs, proteins and fats.
i'm sorry youre going through this, i know how hard it is. maybe you need to see a nutritionist, its possible that having a specific food plan and that guidance and support will provide you with better results.
but i tried xenical about 5 years ago, and it's a stupid waste of money. it's only effective if you're eating food with fat - which you're not doing anyway. you don't need it, and it's not going to help you long term. even with pcos, you can loose weight, but your main priority needs to be eating for your health (the diabetic diet/IR diet) and the weight will come off.
I am 33 and was diagnosed Type 2 6 weeks ago. I'll tell you, I've known I'm PCOS for 6 years, and nothing kicked me in the pants as did my fasting over 200 glucose number. Something about that needs to click in your brain. Yes it sucks...and one thing I've learned...and am starting to accept...diabetes is forever, and so are the changes you have to make.
If you love pasta, go for that new yellow barilla pasta that is balanced with more fiber, it's not as weird as whole wheat pasta, but doesn't have the carb kick of regular pasta. I refuse to give up pasta, so my compromise is trying to limit portions, eat more meat sauce than pasta, and try to eat it in the middle of the day so you have time to get things back to normal blood sugar wise w/a lighter dinner, etc.
As others have suggested, eat more protein foods like cheese, salami, pepperoni, milk, are my favorites...though you have to watch portions on these for fat.
I have been mourning the giving up sugar thing...I'm a candy-a-holic, so I started sampling some of the sugar free stuff. I have to admit the russel stover sugar free chocolate mints are almost like york peppermint patties, and they have splenda, so they don't hit your blood sugar so hard.
Probably the best thing you can do is to go to the diabetes center in your community hospital, working with your doctor, and try to get menu plans for yourself that include foods you genuinely like. There are ways to make lower carb versions of our favorite foods...being diabetic isn't a death sentence..so I'm learning.
One last thing, have you had your thyroid checked? I found out 6 months before I was diagnosed diabetic, that I'm also hypothyroid, which means you don't feel like doing anything, your metabolism is non-existent, and you are functioning like a car running out of gas. Once I went on medication for that, I started losing weight without even trying, because my body was working better, and I wasn't hungry all the time.
I hope something I said is helpful or motivating. I know how you feel...we all do.
