Default 3x a day? or 1x?

I have been taking metformin for about 2 months now. I am lucky and got over the side effects in the first two weeks. Now it doesn't bother me at all. I was talking to my hairdresser who also has PCOS. She said that when she went to a specialist for ttc, the RE told her that she should be taking her 1500mg all at once, not 3 times a day. So she switched and the next month she got pregnant (after trying for over a year). It could easily be coincidence, but I was just wondering what you girls are doing. 1x a day or 3? And do you think it would be ok to switch to once a day? I'm curious! Thanks!

I'm assuming she changed because she switched from regular Met to extended release Met.

I take my Met 1500mg all at once..with my prenatal vitamins. My RE said it was perfectly fine to do so, as long as the side effects weren't too much on me. I also started with 500mg, and week by week, moved up 500mg.. now I'm taking them, and I have no problem. I've been on it for about 4-5 months, and the last few cycles have been becoming regular, well, at least for me. As long as your dr says it's alright.. you can really do whatever you feel you want to. Good luck!

It depends on which one you're on. The extended release ones can be taken all at once, while the regular should be taken spread out throughout the day, and with a meal.

I was taking 500mg 3x a day and then I could never remember to take it after lunch, so I switched to 500 mg in the AM and 1000 mg in the PM. I think it works the same either way, as long as you get it all in during the day. I am willing to bet the hairdresser just happened to get pregnant (not from taking it all at one time). I was on it for 8 mo. before getting pregnant.

Well I'm very new to this (as in I was just diagnosed 4 hours ago) but I'm starting out at 1 500mg pill a day, working my way up to two. Next month when I see my doctor, if I'm not having any issues, she'll move me up to 850mg twice a day.

I always split mine up because it was so hard on my stomach, but I was told by my doctor that I could do either. I started out on 1000 mgs., then went to 2000 mgs, and both times I took it twice a day. I think if your stomach can take it, it's ok either way.
