maybe you already knew but- I just found out today that Levothyroxin is just four dollars through Walmart's pharmacy. You can only do the 30 day supply at a time. You don't have to sign up or do anything special or anything, its just four dollars because it is a generic. Unfortunately I'm on synthroid, and have been for 7 years but might ask my doc about the side effects of switching. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else on Levo didn't know! Have a great weekend!

I would never take generic levothyroxine because the dosage may not always be consistent. When Wal-Mart (or any other pharmacy) purchases generic, they buy from the lowest priced supplier which means it changes. One month they could buy from Company A, and the next month Company B. They do not have to tell you this, but the dosages could be 'off' from company to company.
There was a lady on one forum who just thought this was hype from the manufacturers of Synthroid, plus she wanted to save the $$$, so she chose to go with the generic. Everytime she had her blood checked, her TSH was all over the place so she decided to stick with Synthroid and it worked.
Different strokes for different folks, but just wanted to throw my two cents out there.
Also, for those who take Synthroid, there is a $3-off coupon at Synthroid.com that you can print and use each time you get your rx filled.

Usually if you are on one or the other, it's a good idea to stick with it. If you do need to switch (because of insurance coverage, etc) then you may go through a period of adjustment to get your correct dose again (for the reason Lynn posted, generics of all types of meds are not always consistent in their dosing). If you do need to switch, I would definately talk it over with your doctor to find out what he recommends.
