Default 41 Degrees in Ipswich!

Oh my goodness - it is 41 degrees here in Redbank Plains! I am praying that the power doesn't go off , and that my air con stays healthy for the duration of the day, but OH BOY its HOT!!

How many other cysters who live on the east coast are having this heat wave too?

I feel for you. You'd be turning into a grease spot, as my dear old Granny used to say. Times like this I'm glad I live down here in Tassie. Normally doesn't get over 30.

OMG Sammie this is just disgusting this heat!!!

I reckon it has to still be at least 35 degrees in this house, no insulation, not many windows, no damn breeze, and worst of all NO AIR CON!!!

I've just spent 25mins in the shower in an attempt to cool down, and it hasn't worked!! Any more days like this and I swear i'm gonna melt into a big puddle!!

Not exactly good when everyone tells ya not to overheat yourself when your pg!!!

Ahhhh Winter, where are you????

Yep, hot here too!

Just think it won't last forever.

Yes, I agree, it is begining to feel like a sauna here. I really noticed it on Friday night, when trying to water the garden. I am finding it even worse now that we have lost most of our shade in the backyard (storms the other week).

Thank goodness for air conditioning.

You'd better all come down here - 19 yesterday and supposed to be 20 today. It actually got up round 25-26 last week.

OOOOH - isn't that a heat wave for Tassie, Tas?

I can't really make fun of Tassie as my grandfather came from Tassie (Lagana, sp?). And it is ONE of my many dreams, to holiday in Tassie one day.

But seriously, even though it is REAL HOT here, you just got to feel sorry for the ones (I do) who are still without power in SE-QLD. It may be hot here in my part of Ipswich - but atleast I have power for the fridge & the air con. I just don't know how they would/could possibly cope with it.

That just goes to show how insular I am, I didnt even know that parts of SE QLD have no power.

I think I should start watching the new a bit more often

We got 41 outside today - 27 in - with air con.....

Yep, it is soooooooo BLOODY HOT!!!!!! I can understand how people become homicidal in this weather !!!!!!
The good news is that a cool change is expected for next week (I think it's mid next week). My dh is a weather guru - he told me that today - he needs to watch the weather as his job is quite reliant on the seasons farmers are having. Anyway, enough delerious rambling - hopefully the forecast is right and we can look forward to some cooler weather.

KEEP COOL!!!!

Ohhh Amy you don't realise just how much I want your DH to be right about the cool change LOL I just hope it comes sooner, like right now would be awesome

I swear, today so far I must have drunk at least 5 litres of water LOL My poor fish have all died because the water is like 37 degrees (and no, i'm sorry I didn't share my fan with them!) so I have officially cooked my animals

I'm so glad i'm not having a summer baby!! I've already started looking for somewhere to live that has got air con LOL No way am I going through another summer like this without a/c!!

Hugs

Tas, my grandfather was born to apple growers. How classic is that! Family name is LONG.

Mandi, Some of DD#1's fish were cooked around xmas, so we have figured out a real handy thing to do. YES, they were SUPPOSED to be her xmas pressie. She ended up with 4 out of 7 purchased.

#1, you can either use removed water from the fish tank, put into marg containers & freeze. Then use them to slowly defrost into the water (removing a new lot of water to refreeze each time you add a frozen lot).

OR,

#2, which is the mothod we use for our small tank, is to use the frozen "esky" blocks to do the same thing. I prefer them because you just wipe them off and throw them back into the freezer (no chance of spilling fish water on the floor). Also they are very cheap in BIG W.

WORD OF WARNING: DO NOT EVER USE REGULAR ICECUBES TO COOL YOUR TANK!!!! You will slowly poison your fish if you do, as fish need their water clean from nasty chemicals (unlike what we drink, which really is nasty).

I have (my mum has) rearranged the furniture in the lounge so the tank is not on an external wall of the house. When we moved the tank, it dropped by 10 degrees.

Hope this all helps, any fish & fish lover.

You know Joanne, I never even thought about freezing their water, or using ice bricks!

We had the tank on the coolest wall in the house, but honestly every wall in our house for the past 2 days has been REALLY hot to touch, even the ones that don't see any sun at all.

We did the big royal flushings last night, cleaned out the tank entirely and will wait until we move before we get anymore fish. But next summer, I will definately be remembering your tips!!

Thanks Joanne!

Hugs

The other thing to remember with fish tanks, they are pretty much the same temp as the room they are in, water does also tend to retain heat. I have stopped using the tank's light because it also causes a spike in the temp of the tank water.

Goldfish are pretty hardy (though are considered a pest by the Dept of Enviroment of QLD), they will tolerate the water upto 30 degrees during the day, but will need a decent cool off at night. Alot of exposure at 30 degree temps, stresses them, which what leads to the "cooking" of them.

So I use the ice to keep mine at 25 - 27 degrees.
