Hi everyone. I am new to the site but i was diagnosed with PCOS right after this last Christmas. I'm not sure which category i would fall under. Is there any definition that I could get so I could consider which type I would be?
I just had all my test re done and everything was "fine" except for the cortisol levels.
Still don't understand how I can lose so much on my head but gain so much EVERYWHERE else lol
I still get alot of the "a" typical answers.. "Its P.C.O." AHHHHH lol
Im trying Rogain for men and the Spirono together. I know it said on the box not to try the men version but heck, I already have facial hair... WHAT else could grow on my face lol.
So far Im seeing roots Ü (I normally only dye my hair a few times a year) and after 2 weeks I was seeing slight roots, and now after a month of both together Im seeing a inch in some areas in ONE month
I found a ph balance like thing to from Sallys to put on my hair to kinda help stop breakage and shedding. Ill see if I can find the name of it if it can help Ü

Hi, I'm new here and glad to have found your site. I think I was a #1. I don't have ovaries or my other parts anymore had it all taken out three yrs. ago. I am 53 yrs old now and I was never told I was insulin resistant so I think I was #1. My ovaries were always filled with cysts, have upper facial hair, arm hair, and some hair on body. It took 3 1/2 yrs on fertility injections to conceive my son who is now 22 yrs. He is all I have and a blessing. Living with PCOS has made my life miserable. I know I still have PCOS even though the ovaries are gone. Is there any help for someone like me. I cannot lose weight. My internist put me on water pills to try to help, but after finding your site and seeing this weight gain might be do to the fact I have PCOS, I have to talk to him again.

I'm a 3...and my dr. just told me he would put me on something for my hair loss, but not while i am TTC. he said that it should grow back, but it is starting to get very embarressing.
Have they tried anything else? ex. Glucophage/Metformin?
You can still have the side effects and problems of P.C.O with out having the "factory"
I had a hysterectomy a year and a half ago and it don't seem to have slowed anything down lol
Was the water pill like Spironolactone or Lasixor just a over the counter kind?

That's a great article. It is interesting to see PCOS broken down into different streams like that. I'm curious about the insulin resistance part - I have never met the criteria for IR, but yet Metformin helped me to manage my symptoms and ovulate for 2 years+. My OB/GYN isn't so comfortable with the off-label use of it and so I'm back to no meds and am finding my weight slowly creeping up and haven't ovulated since I've been off Metformin. It's a frustrating process to figure this all out.

Sorry to hear what you are going through, although that may not be the case now. I am new to the site and was reading through some old threads. Just curious, how high was your cortisol if you can remember. My results came back at 26.02 with norm 6.2-19.4 in am. According to family doctor . org high cortisol leads to high testosterone and my T is at 75ng/dL. Could you let me know how you decreased your cortisol? Any comments appreciated. Thanks. Hope you are doing better.

Great article. Quite possibly a silly question but how does one define whether they're insulin resistant or not? I'm not sure I've ever been tested for it...

My Cortisol was 560s and testosterone was 368. I had read AFTER they did the test that b.c. and spironolactone can throw off the results but Im not sure how bad and if it mattered yet (I had only been on them 3 days at the time of testing) I dont think it would throw em THAT high though lol. I liked to have laughed when I probably have more then hubby does lol lol
I know as funny as it sounds I still haven't found anything yet to lower em. Im trying progesterone cream for a few other things and seeing if it helps to. And yoga for relaxation and exercise (I had orginally been doing it for excercise but read it can help with stress and levels to)
Not sure if it really does help with the actual numbers but I feel some what more calmer.

They can do the testing (kinda like pregnancy testing with the yukie drink and check ur blood every hour) and they look at the results. There's a 1 hour and a 3 hour test.
I have every sign of pco BUT the insulin resistance. The glucophage still works great with me though lol

Maybe I should get checked out for that especially as I'm very overweight...
I'll see if I can convince my doctor....she's useless as I'm currently not being treated for my PCOS.

maybe my cortisol and test aren't that high, although I still feel stressed..can't imagine what i would be like at your numbers (i have a low tolerance to stress) Hope the yoga works. I've done a few poses before. I started drinking tea lately and (maybe it's all in my head) but I feel more calm after. Thanks for sharing.

LOL. Thats a norm alot with drs lol. To find one that will test EVERYTHING is a night mare lol. Ive been going to my regular OB-GYN, but if you can find a endocrinologist they could deal with everything from Diabetes to other hormone issues. (Usually they are far and few in between lol) We maybe have a couple for the entire state lol.
I use google ALOT lol (Plus read a ton in here lol)
