My Dr is keeping me on 500 mg a day. From what I've seen most women are on 1500mg/day. Is my doseage enough to help me regulate my cycle and help me get pregnant.
P.S. I'm a newbie and if this post is in the wrong area point me in the right direction, Thanks!
Hey. I'm wondering the same thing. My doctor started me out on 500 mg too, but he said that I might not see any results, so he's monitoring it closely.
I'm glad I'm not alone. I hope its enough. I don't see my dr again until august. I wish he would up it to twice a day. I even asked him about it and he said that he doesn't increase the dose unless he sees a reason (ie no weight loss)
My endocrinologist started me on 500mg & then a week later my OB/GYn upped it to 500mg twice a day. I still dont' think that's enough because I still have "symptoms" even tho with the clomid I ovulated...

Hey. I'm not sure if that's enough for you, but your doctor is probably wanting to try you out on the minimum dose to see how your body reacts. Metformin can be a pretty serious drug (side effects). I was hesitant of starting it, but it's been okay so far.
My RE told me that nothing under 1500mg per day aided in the help of conception and she likes to put her patients on 2000mg a day, she said she gets the best results from her patients on 2000mg a day. Just wanted to throw out what my RE has said.

I was on 500mgs for over 1 year. Once I was switched to 1500mgs I really could tell a difference. I feel much better and I don't get those horrible cysts down there anymore.

After my daughter was born, I increased to 1750 mg, but it made me miserably sick. So, since 1000 mg regulated my cycles and helped me get and stay pg, I'm stickin' with that!
Good luck!

I started out on 500 mg of met. Every two weeks I am supposed to increase the dosage by another 500 mg until I am up to 2000mg. My doctor did encourage me by saying that one pill is better than nothing, so if I can only stomach 500, then at least it will help some. Good luck!
I conceived on 500-1000mg/day. I was supposed to take 1500mg, but I never remembered to take it 3 times a day. I finally started breaking them in half and tried to take 750mg twice a day, but even then I rarely remembered the 2nd dose. I'm not overweight, so weight loss wasn't the goal of Met for me. I did lose a few pounds during those 2 months.
I agree that it's not a bad idea to start with 500mg and move up slowly. It seems to help lessen the side-effects. As long as your doctor is willing to increase the dose over time, there's no harm in seeing what a lose dose might do.

First off, How long did it take you to get pg? And for everyone else, i was first on only 500 mg a day prescribed by my reg dr. Then I went to my endo and she said that 500 will do nothing so she put me on 1500 and told me not to come back pg, since Im not ttc. lol!!!

Just wondering how do you get ur signature to show up??
Those of you who are only on 500 mg have you had any side effects? I have been on a 500 mg dose per day and I have had zero side effects. I was preparing myself but I have not eaten great and it really hasn't done anything to me??? I am wondering if the does just isn't enough to have an effect on me. Maybe I need more. All my sisters are on 2000 mg per day. I hope to see improvements but I kinda have been let down.
