Question 6 weeks 1 day, no heartbeat

Based on my cycle length and date of ovulation, my doctor calculated that when I had the vaginal ultrasound yesterday, I was 6 weeks 1 day. We saw the sac, the fetal pole, but no heartbeat. Yesterday, I was 29 days past ovulation. We scheduled another ultrasound for next week, but in the meantime I am freaking out. I really don't know how I'm going to make it through this week. Actually, my doctor wanted me to have the next ultrasound in 2 weeks, but I told him there was no way I could wait 2 weeks....and now I'm wondering if I made the wrong decision.

Other info I have is: 14 dpo, beta was 207. 16 dpo, beta was 527, and 23 dpo, beta was a little over 5,800.

I guess I'm looking for any real information out there as to whether or not seeing the heartbeat is normal or a reason for concern. My doctor just said we're in a waiting game right now, and there's nothing he or I can do about it. That didn't make me feel any better. I also don't work in the summer so I have nothing to distract me right now. The internet is driving me crazy but I can't get away from it. I think I'm making things worse by going to google, but I just can't help myself.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

It is very normal. I think that it's actually more typical not to see the heartbeat until 7 or 8 weeks.

My son's heartbeat was seen at 5w6d, but at about 7 weeks, another doctor swore that he just saw an empty sac, no heartbeat, not fetal pole, nothing. He diagnosed me with a blighted ovum despite the fact that his heartbeat had been seen 2 previous times. Well, i'm now 21 weeks 1 day and my son is thriving. I think it might be a little too early to see a heartbeat. It really depends on the doctor doing the scan. Don't be discouraged just yet. Good luck!

We had an u/s at about the same gestational age and only one baby had a h/b. A week later they were both flitting away! It's pretty normal for them not to show up until later.

Plz dont worry! Thats very normal and your betas are very good. At my 5 weeks and 1 day, they saw NOTHING..not even a sac and my beta was 3996! I bet when you go back in a week you will see the heartbeat! It's still early!

When I called to schedule my first appointment the nurse told me that my dr. wouldn't even want to see me until after 7 weeks because that's when we could probably hear the hb for the first time.
I'm guessing it's too early for you. Everything else sounds like it's right on!
My advice is to stop goggling for info and try to relax until the next appt. Stressing isn't good for you or the baby!
Best of luck!

I think it's normal so try not to worry. I have heard of women not hearing the heartbeat until 10 weeks! I was lucky and heard my little guy's or girl's heartbeat at 7w4d. Try not to worry and stress out - it won't help you or the little one!

try not to worry, at my 1st u/s @ 5w2d we saw the the sac, pole etc and no hb,, they werent even looking for hb and I didnt know anything so was never worried. and beta was 10,600

At my 2nd u/s @ 6w5d, we say a hb of 139bpm.. and I was told that typically they see a hb closer to 7weeks like I was

So hang in there, I know next week, you will see your little bean pumping away..

At my first u/s I was 6 weeks exactly and only saw the yolk sac and gestational sac, not even a fetal pole, but when we went back at 7 weeks, there was a a little heart beating away. I will keep you in my prayers.

Hugs,
Donna

I had the exact same thing happen as eeyoredja. Not much to see at 6 weeks, heart beating like a champ at 7. GL!!!

Default Heart beat

I saw the heart beat today at 6w4d - it was 120 bpm. Don't worry - I've read many times the heart doesn't start beating until the middle of week 6!

I'm glad you're feeling better. My little baby book says 5 weeks is as early as it is possible to see the heart beat. It's possible that they just can't find it yet! I'm excited for you that everything else is in place! Good luck to you.

My Dr totally prepared me that if we did not see a heartbeat at our 6 week ultrasound not to be alarmed that sometimes they were not visible until 7 weeks or more. We were fortunate to see and hear it at 6 weeks it was 111 BPM but that was at my RE's office and his HIGH TECH machine. Good Luck!!!
