I went in for my ultra sound. At what I thought was 7 weeks, I measured at 5, but the ultrasound tech said that everything looked good. At the new 7 weeks, I went back. This time, we found one sac, two fetuses and no heart beats. They would like me to have a DNC (or whatever) next Monday, if I haven't lost the babies by then. Reading on-line, people seem to think that sometimes there are mistakes with the ultrasound, but the doctor sure didn't make it sound that way. She said there was a chance, a very slight chance, that I wasn't as far a long as I thought, and we were actually not yet at 7 weeks. I still think my dates should be 9 weeks though (my husband works out of town, so I have a very real idea of when I could've gotten pregnant.) Anyway, she said they'll do an additional ultrasound after a week, but that in all likelihood, the pregnancy has ended.
Partially, she seemed to feel it was a result of the one sac two babies thing, aparently this is very rare and identical twins generally share a placenta, but not an amnoitic sac and when they do share an amnoitic sac, there is a much lower chance of viability. I am afraid to do the DNC incase the babies might still be alive. I saw the ultrasound with the little beans that weren't moving, so I feel as though I should just accept that they are dead. But its hard, when I hear stories of people having babies later. I didn't want to post this in the pregnancy forum, because it is such a downer and I don't want to scare people. What would you do?
I am so sorry you are going through this. Can you ask for another u/s right before the d&c? If you have doubts it would be best to confirm it one more time so you don't doubt it forever.

i really hope that you do not have to go through this. there is a slight possibility they could be wrong. i would definately have them do another ultrasound before the d&c which i think is procedure any way. i will definitely pray for you because i do know how hard it is.

Thanks all, they will do a second u/s before they do it. I'm just trying not to get my hopes up. My morning sickness has gone and so has a lot of the tiredness. I feel like I'm twice as moody, though, but I'm sort of wondering if my HCGs have dropped. I don't know. It's so hard to tell how much of this is in my head. I'll let you all know how it turns out next week after it all goes down.
I am sorry-right before my D and C I had a one more ultrasound on a high tech machne..where if there was aHB they could have heard it even at 7 weeks, and nope, there was nothing. Its awful. I am so sorry and I know exactly how u feel. Im so sorry.

I just went through a D&E June 12 and I was at 8 weeks. I went through the same feelings and thoughts as you are. My thoughts and prayers are with you. My RE did another ultrasound that morning before the procedure; there was no heartbeat and our little one had started to shrink. It was very hard, but also very reassuring knowing that we had lost him. I haven't talked to anyone about how I feel (my DH has been very supportive with my tears and emotions), but I felt I needed to respond to you. Don't lose hope, as mommies we "just know".
I'm so sorry for your lost. I hope you can find some peace.

Well, I had the second u/s today. It sounds like it went a lot like your, luckylady. The babies were smaller (one was almost gone) which was actually more horrible than sad. They called the doctor in to see, but one of my elementary school students could have confirmed that it didn't look good. I'm sure they were only following procedure. On the plus side. I have no doubt at all that the babies have died.
I asked another question on here about d and c's and I've decided to have one.
Thank you all for your support. This has been my main link to feeling better and getting advice about the situation. Outside of you all, I don't have many people who are very understanding about this.
i'm sorry things didn't go well. when i m/c i also chose to have a d&e. i think it helped that it brought closure and i didn't have to deal with the bleeding. good luck to you and again, i'm sorry.
